I had an appt. today. She added Melatonin to regulate my ability to get to sleep, since it helps control circadian rhythms and Progesterone to try to alleviate menstrual cramps. She also added iron that she thought she had already given me.
I'm trying Dr. St. Amand's Guaifenisen Protocol publicly to see if it will help my fibromyalgia symptoms so that others can benefit from my experience.
The Short of It
2/14 Had naps all week and fell asleep early- I do think stress has exacerbated my symptoms a lot. I just got my MA exam study questions this week.
2/10 LONG day of errands. In agony when I got home like at 2pm. I slept for a couple of hours and felt better.
2/7 I went to sleep at 9 but then I woke up at midnight and never went back to sleep :(. My hands are awful today.
2/6 My lower back was pretty bad today- all day. I'm in a lot of pain tonight and hope my pill will kick in so I can sleep.
2/5 I was able to take Brooklyn to school and am not terribly sore today- just a bit.
2/4 I was super sore again this morning. I couldn't take Brooklyn to school, and I was almost late to teaching. The rest of the day so far isn't too bad. I'm just a little more tired than I would care to be.
2/3 I woke up super sore as if I exercised too much yesterday, but I didn't. It lasted all day. Not sure why. It got a little better toward the end of the day; I was afraid that I am starting a new bad cycle. But, I did run three errands today without crashing, so maybe I'm being jumpy.
1/30 Restless night but surprisingly effective day. I ran up and down stairs and zipped all over on campus without wearing myself out. I taught, did a imovie workshop, worked at eCreate, picked up kids and dropped one off. I didn't need a Tramadol when I got home and didn't fall asleep right away! Awesome.
1/29 I woke up in agony- don't know why. I couldn't even get up to take meds; gratefully, Darin noticed and helped me. I did do Wii Fit yesterday, but I don't think that's related.
1/28 Still suffering from the temperature drop and moisture. Meds aren't quite getting rid of it, but I can stil function.
1/24 The temp dropped from 69 to 31 in one day. I haven't gone outside, but everything hurts. My body does not like abrupt weather changes.
1/23 I had messed up my pills a couple of days, missing them last week. It seemed to have a big effect. Last 3 days I'm tired but can get up and function. Need tramadol once or twice a day but it completely takes care of pain.
1/20 Insomnia last night; really fuzzy this morning and hard to wake up, but I was still up by 10. Really sore back and arms when I got mom home from the hospital, but still functioning.
1/19 2 really good active days. Still needed mobic and tramadol but it wasn't too bad! (church & hospital w/mom days)
1/17 Severe PMS moodiness and terrible crippling cramps. Don't know if that'll improve someday but hope so.
1/15 Slept in but felt ok in afternoon. Even did 15 min on Wii Fit.
1/13 I didn't hurt much today except in my left knee (new pain); I was tired but managed grocery shopping and a list for the week.
1/12 Every inch of me aches. Kept me up most of the night.
1/11 migraine all night and into the afternoon
1/8 slept normal hours finally; took Beam to school. Left hand is killing me, even on meds; still stiff and sore.
1/7 Went to bed at 1 and woke up at 1 this afternoon (only because of the tornado siren test, though). I'm going to take tylenol pm tonight to try to get myself regulated.
1/6 I woke up at midnight and I'm still up at 3 with a bad headache. I call this type of headache a "toxic headache".
1/5 I got up to take Brooklyn to school- miracle- but then went back to bed until 2, darn it, and was exhausted by 9:30
1/3 went to bed last night at about 12:30 am, and then slept until 3 pm! I couldn't believe it. I woke up super stiff and fatigued (somehow). Brain fog day. It's 10:30pm now, and I'm exhausted.
1/2 sore in lower-back, neck, shoulders, fatigue, but handled the long travel day considering
1/1 stayed up until 1 am by accident (lots of difficulty falling asleep early lately); woke up at noon stiff and sore but better than yesterday.
12/30 same, plus first dose of pain meds didn't help at all (not normal); hands were killing me
12/29 stiff and sore all over; slept until afternoon
12/28 No changes; upped dose to 600mg, 2x/ day
12/23 Started Guai 300mg, 2x/ day
1/12 Every inch of me aches. Kept me up most of the night.
1/23 I had messed up my pills a couple of days, missing them last week. It seemed to have a big effect. Last 3 days I'm tired but can get up and function. Need tramadol once or twice a day but it completely takes care of pain.
Welcome to The Guifenisen Experiment
I have fibromyalgia- it's trying to take over my life. So, I am trying Dr. St. Amand's Guaifenisen Protocol to see if it can give me my life back. I'm posting about my experience to see how it goes over time, and I'm posting so others who have fibro use me as a guinea pig before trying it themselves. See my first blog for more details. I'm 36 years old, for the record. I know I sound like I'm 70 on here.
I'm an English prof by day and mom of a fantastic teen by day and night. I find that I'm easily amused and either hyper-focused or easily distracted. My interests range from Shakespeare to video games- I'm not above very much, unless it's something that will take away from my soul, then I just avoid it. I feel compelled to help others once I've been through something myself. What's the point of going through garbage if not to help someone else's journey be a little easier than mine was?
